Highlights on a specie of Virus (Corona virus)
Corona viruses are a family of viruses that cause disease in animals. Corona viruses affect the respiratory tract of those infected. They also affect the gut.
They are called CORONA viruses because of the crown-like spikes on their surface. Corona in latin means “hale” or “crown”.
There are seven (7) types of human coronaviruses:
229E (ALPHA CORONA VIRUS)
NL63 (ALPAH CORONA VIRUS)
OC43 (BETA CORONA VIRUS)
HKU1 (BETA CORONA VIRUS)
SARS- (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) 2002-2003.
MERS (Middle East Respiratory Disease) emerged in 2012
COVID-19; COrona VIrus Disease- 2019. It is different from others because the spectrum of the disease is broad. It is harder to control because majority pf people carrying the disease display no symptoms initially unlike in SARS where those infected were seriously ill.
The origin of COVID-19 is thought to be bat. This is because bats are host to a wide range of zoonotic viruses including Ebola, HIV and Rabies. It was discovered that the first set of people with COVID-19 had links to animal and seafood market.

IMPORTANT ANTI-VIRAL FOODS IN OUR DIET
Garlic- this is a powerful pungent medicinal and anti-viral food to fend off flu and viruses. It can be eaten raw, marshed or can be added to soup. It can also be chopped and mixed with a tablespoon of unpasteurized, raw honey.


Ginger- eating some fresh ginger before meals provide an extra layer of protection from illnesses such as Salmonella and Listeria. Ginger also reduces indigestion.



Honey- it is used as food and medicine. It has been used as far back as The Stone Age to prevent infections on battle wounds. It is also known to fight back against some 60 species of bacteria, fungi and viruses. However, ensure it is raw! Do not over use also

Tumeric- it is the best of all spices. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-bacteria and anti-tumor properties. It also boosts mitochondrial health (mitochondria is the power house of our body cells).



Coconut oil- The first thing to ensure is that the oil is undiluted to avoid chemical solvents, preservatives and additives. This is known as Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO). VCO contains Lauric acid which brings down some viruses and pathogenic bacteria.


In a research, Dr. Fabian Dayrit and Dr. Mary Newport of Anteneo de Manila University (The Philipines) and Spring Hill Neonatolody (USA) respectively had proposed the potential coconut oil as a safe agent against COVID-19. It was revealed that first and foremost, the oil causes disintegration of the virus envelope; second, it inhibits late maturation in the virus replicative cycle; and third, it prevents the binding of viral proteins to the host cell membrane.

Fermented foods- consuming fermented foods fortifies the gut with probiotics (good bacteria that boost the health of the belly). Fermented foods ease and improve digestion and make it easier for the body to extract and absorb more nutrients.
